But it is minor. The shell is in great shape. The snare relief is not a rogers unit.

But a'New Sound' piece. I have seen a few other rogers from this era with the same piece. I do not know if it was considered an upgrade to the Rogers original. Or if it was used by Rogers when the they ran out of their own to use.

Rare Dynasonic Prototype Snare Frame Collection.This is for the collector who has it all and wants to display them or just enjoy them. This collection. Would make the cornerstone of a Rogers Drum or Dynasonic Museum. This collection pre-dates the first production model of the Dynasonic Snare patented by Joe Thompson.

Thompson worked tirelessly to invent a snare that would give a crisp sound and lay flat against the head without choking it. This is a one-of-a-kind collection and unique opportunity to own a piece of Rogers history. These were acquired a decade ago from Charlie Costello who featured part of this collection in Rob Cook's book on pages 177-179(first edition) and pages 181-183(second edition. I have included illustrations from the book showing the same collection and also recent photos of the frames. Some are numbered(by Costello) and the collection is in very good original condition. This collection consists of 64 pieces.

As you can see by the first photo. A great deal of thought and work went into the development of the Dyna-sonic snare frames. The prototype frames in this first photo were hand-built by Joe Thompson.

Some of these prototypes had'jacking screws' In the final production model Dyna-sonics a small bar was cast at the spot where the tip of the'jacking screw' comes through on the prototype. The protruding bar bent the entire wire end-plate, causing the snares to bow upward and in the middle of the drum. The bowing matched the curvature of the drum head to maintain snare contact across the head. Frames pictured No. 31 and 32 feature individually adjustable snares. According to the drum serial number. Along with information found in the dating-guide chart in: The Rogers Book' By Rob Cook, this drum was manufactured by Rogers in 1970 at the Fullerton Ohio plant. Prior to this listing. I took this drum to Forks Drum Shop, in Nashville, TN. They said that this drum is. In their opinion: in'Mint Condition' For the purpose of not overstating the condition. I will describe the drum as'Mint' to'Near-Mint' Condition.

As far as I know. Everything on this drum is original; except the heads and the wire snare-assembly. The snare bridge is original and intact; the strainer also looks and works great. And the head damper is complete and functions perfectly. Condition: as. Stated is mint to near-mint; please remember the drum is used. It will have signs of normal use and or age( it is from 1970) this may include: tarnish and minor surface imperfections.

N othing is broken. Stripped or damaged. The only imperfection that I see is on the top-head hoop; which has some light scuffing of the chrome plating from rim-shots. This drum has b een very well taken care of.

This is one of the historic Dyna-Sonic heavy brass Rogers snare drums. This is from the late 1970s. Very good original condition, new heads, intact and functional snare mechanism.

No cosmetic flaws to speak of, just a couple of spots on the snare mechanism. Top hoop has a slight 1 inch long inward bend- easy to fix, does not affect anything.
